Local Authorities in the Shannonside region are expected to be central to a report highlighting the failures of our planning system.
The National Institute for Regional Spatial Analysis is calling for a inquiry to be held into the planning failures which it states contributed greatly to the financial crisis we now face.
The report shows that the construction of, in particular, houses in counties like Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon was not curtailed to match demand.
In some counties like Longford the construction of houses increased by 50% between 2002 and 2009 and lead to the problem many Local Authorities are now facing in dealing with a huge number of ghost estates.
