A Roscommon County Councillor is calling for changes to be made to new truck licence regulations.
The EU-wide regulations came into force for all truck and bus drivers almost a year ago, and require all drivers to have a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence.
The certificate aims to promote health and safety, ecological driving and road safety for truck drivers and other road users. Licence holders must complete one training module a year in order to keep the certificate.
But Fine Gael County Councillor Michael Creighton is critical of the cost involved in completing the modules, especially for those who are unemployed or working part time.
Cllr Creighton also told Shannonside news that licence holders need more information about the regulations.
