Garda management have told local TD Claire Kerrane it’s to provide support and reassurance to the community.

The candidates in today’s debate were: Councillor Nessa Cosgrove of the Labour Party; Blaithin Gallagher of the Green Party; Deputy Martin Kenny of Sinn Fein; Cllr Edel McSharry of Fianna Fáil; and Graham Monaghan of Aontu. 

Council management has made the controversial proposal but says the money would be spent on key infrastructure.

The Dromod-based Independent has become the 14th declared candidate in the constituency, with four in Leitrim and 10 in Sligo. 

It was called to discuss carrying out a feasibility study into developing an indoor pool in the town, as well as assessing the current facilities.

Several people said they want to keep the current outdoor pool, which is only open during the summer.
