Over 100 private renters facing tenancy issues in the Shannonside region contacted Threshold in the final three months of 2022.
The leading housing charity is encouraging renters to get in touch should any issues arise.
57 people renting in Roscommon contacted Threshold in the final quarter of last year, almost half of these calls related to a notice of termination, 10 % were concerned over the standards of the house while a further 3% of calls related to rent increases. The housing charity assisted 25 renters in Longford from October to December last year with 27% of these calls in connection with tenancy terminations while a further 9% of calls related to rent arrears and landlord breaches. In Leitrim, threshold dealt with 21 calls, 30% related to notice of terminations, while a further 10% were concerned over the standard of their rental accommodation. During this period 100% of rental terminations dealt with by threshold in Longford were invalid, 46% were not valid in Roscommon while all terminations in Leitrim were valid.
Ann-Marie O'Reilly - Threshold's National Advocacy Manager - says nobody should be afraid to legitimately challenge their landlord.
"There's so many renters that don't know about their rights. They don't know that they can stand up for themselves and challenge the landlord. Renters, please get in touch, don't be afraid to challenge, whether it's a notice of termination, a rent review, or if there's repairs outstanding in the home, or any other issues that may be arising".
