12 new hospital beds will be made available at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe from today.
The announcement comes following severe overcrowding issues at the hospital in recent weeks.
The rooms will include 8 single en-suite rooms, and are set to double the existing single bedroom spaces in the hospital.

Alongside the new beds, the newly established Dunlo Ward has also been fully revamped to provide a modern and comfortable space for patients.
A seperate new 50 bed unit is due to be completed at the Ballinasloe Hospital next year.
Local Senator Aisling Dolan says the new beds are vital for proper infection control.
