A status orange wind warning was in place for Co Leitrim yesterday and an yellow alert for Roscommon and Longford.

It caused damage to power lines, led to trees falling down, and there were dangerous driving conditions.

At one stage yesterday, there were almost 3,500 homes and businesses in the Shannonside region without power.

The ESB has fixed the majority of these faults, but over 1,500 remain without power.

In the Roscommon/east Galway area, there are outages in Fairymount, Elphin, Boyle, Glenamaddy, Rooskey, Brideswell, Ballaghaderreen and Knockvicar.

Longford isn't as badly hit, but there are blackouts still in Granard, Legan and Ardagh.

ESB crews are working to restore power to all today - but a small number could be a second night without electricity.
