It's understood up to 14 cases of Covid could be linked to the Delta variant following socialising in Athlone earlier this month.
The HSE was informed over the weekend of a cluster of Covid cases linked to people mixing outdoors on Friday June 11th on the west side of the town.
There have been reports of house parties in the area that night but the Department of Health in the midlands say it's not yet confirmed that the Covid cases reported in the area are the strain first discovered in India.
