The Shannonside Northern Sound region has accounted for 6 percent of total Covid-19 cases in the Republic of Ireland.
According to new figures from the Central Statistics Office, there have been a total of 247 deaths connected with the virus and 14,312 cases confirmed among Longford, Leitrim, Roscommon, Cavan and Monaghan.
The figures cover the beginning of the pandemic up to March 19th 2021 and have been released by the CSO this afternoon.
Monaghan has recorded the total highest number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the region with 4,820 cases of the virus to date and 72 deaths also recorded.
Over the last three weeks, the border county has seen the rate of new cases drop by over 50 percent.
In Cavan, new cases over the last few weeks have grown by 44 percent, while the county recorded 96 deaths and 4,682 cases over the last year.
Roscommon has recorded 47 deaths linked to the virus as well as the next highest level of historical cases locally at 2,249, with weekly cases there jumping 30 percent over the last month.
Following weeks of high transmission levels of the virus in Longford, the county is beginning to move down the table with weekly cases down nearly 30 percent and a total of 1,805 cases of the virus diagnosed locally and 19 deaths notified since March last year.
Today marks the fifth week in a row that Leitrim has recorded less than 25 new cases, with 13 deaths announced and just 756 people diagnosed with the virus since the pandemic began.
