Management of the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar are working on a number of initiatives to try and reduce overcrowding at the hospital
The most recent meeting of the midlands regional health forum heard that the hospital has seen an increase of 15.4% in attendance due to a rise in Covid presentations and normal care activity as the country exited lockdowns.
Declan Coyle, CEO of the Ireland east hospital group, which manages Mullingar confirmed there is ongoing communication between the Hospital, IEHG and Acute Hospital Division to manage surges in attendances
Efforts to recruit staff are also ongoing, while direct GP access to the minor injuries unit as well as rapid assessments and triage services in the Emergency Department are also being used to help patient flow.
