Seventeen horses were seized by the Department of Agriculture in the last 16 months in the Shannonside Region.
The Department investigates animal welfare issues in relation to livestock and equines across the country.
According to a FOI released to Shannonside FM News, nine horses were seized in Longford between the start of 2022 and mid 2023.
Of these animals, all nine were rehomed after being taken into the custody of the Department.
In Leitrim, 7 horses were taken from situations involving neglect, cruelty or ownership dispute, with all seven finding new homes.
Just one horse was taken into the care of the department in Roscommon in the 18 month period.
Nationally, 326 equines were seized in 2022, with 64 reclaimed, 248 rehomed and 14 euthanized.
