25 property owners across Longford have responded to a call from the local authority offering their vacant home to Ukrainian refugees.
It comes in response to a national call from councils across Ireland under the Offer a Home Initiative launched in late November.
Under the initiative a total of 25 properties have been offered to Longford County Council, ten of these have been inspected and deemed suitable under the Scheme. It's understood four of these homes have been allocated to Ukrainian families, housing a total of 16 people to date. The other 15 properties have been inspected and are in need of small remedial works to get them up to the required standard. However two of these houses have been deemed unsuitable due to necessary work in involved while one has been withdrawn.
In Roscommon there has been 39 offers of accommodation under the Offer A Home Programme.
A tax-free recognition payment of €800 per month is available for properties used to house those arriving from Ukraine. This is an increased payment rate applying from December 1st 2022.
