Over 28 thousand in the Shannonside Northern Sound region were in receipt of the Back to School allowance over the last three years.
Figures revealed by Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys, show that over 8000 have been awarded the allowance as of June of this year.
With the new school year starting soon, many families are applying for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance.
The scheme provides a once-off payment to eligible families to assist with the costs of clothing and footwear when children aged between 4 and 17 start or return to school each autumn.
Over the period between 2020 and 2022, Cavan held the highest number of Back to School claimants at 7795, with Monaghan a close second at 6219 claimants.
Leitrim had the lowest figure in the Shannonside Northern Sound region, at 3303.
The 2023 figures show a similar trend, with Cavan holding 2180 claimants of the scheme, the highest in the region.
There are currently 1664 recipients of the allowance in Longford, and 1649 in Roscommon.
Leitrim remains the county with the lowest number of in the region, at 1035 claimants.
