Close to 3 and a half million euro has been allocated to schools across the Shannonside Northern Sound Region as part of a new digital teaching programme.
The funds, announced by Minister for Education Norma Foley this morning, will see 3.5 million euro allocated to 347 primary and post-primary schools across the 5 counties.
Schools will be required to use the funding for the direct benefit of their students, in areas such as digital technologies and providing infrastructure such as devices on loan to students.
301 primary schools and 46 secondary schools across the region will be benefiting from the funding.
Cavan has received the highest allocation locally, with almost one million euro to be split between 86 schools.
88 primary schools and 9 secondary schools in Roscommon have the next largest funding, with €821,386 set aside for digital initiatives.
€754,266 is to go to 73 Monaghan schools, while €605,502 will benefit Longford primary and post-primary schools.
Leitrim has received the lowest allocation, with almost €390,000 euro set aside for the project.
The funding is part of a national grant of 50 million euro.
