There has been a 30% decrease in the number of people who are Covid positive in local hospitals in the last three weeks.
New figures from the HSE show that the number of people who tested positive for the virus in one local hospital has halved since the 20th of March.
Just under 150 people are officially Covid positive at local hospitals across the Shannonside region today.
Galway University Hospital is treating 56 Covid positive patients- the highest figure locally.
The next highest is at Sligo University Hospital - with 33 Covid positive patients - a significant reduction on the 60 Covid patients in the northwest facility on the 20th of March.
On that date, 210 people were Covid positive in wards and rooms in local hospitals.
By the 3rd of April, the total numbers in local hospitals with Covid had dropped to 172 - with 60 people still at Galway University Hospital, but 40 at Sligo hospital, 35 in Tullamore and 26 in Mullingar.
In the two weeks up to the 7th of April, 1678 Covid cases were confirmed in local counties including 405 in Leitrim, 523 in Longford and 750 in Roscommon.
