Over 300,000 students are returning to school this morning for the first time since the Christmas holidays.
Children in the first four years of primary school, along with leaving cert students, are all back in the classroom today.
Other pupils will have to wait until March 15th or April 12th, as the government gradually reopens the education sector.
Parents are being asked not to congregate at the school gates while dropping their children off.
Rapid Covid-19 tests will make up part of the government's plan to allow society to reopen.
They will be used to monitor outbreaks in schools and other areas of the community.
Ventilating indoor spaces will also play a key part in the plan, according to reports.
The cabinet's economic sub committee will meet today to discuss the post recovery plan.
