Mullingar hospital and emergency department is reported to be very busy today and visitors are advised to only attend the emergency department if absolutely necessary.
They've also advised not to bring children, if at all possible.
Members of the public are also being asked, where possible, to telephone their GP or pharmacist in the first instance to seek the best advice, rather than presenting at the hospital.
Figures issued by the INMO show 20 people on trolleys at Mullingar hospital today.
There are 35 people reported to be waiting at Sligo Hospital today, which is the second-highest figure in the country.
