Leitrim is bucking the trend when it comes to female candidates in local elections.
That's the view of See Her Elected, the initiative which aims to train women for a life in politics. 37 per cent of candidates in Letrim this year are women, compared to 27 per cent in Longford and just 16 per cent in Roscommon. Mairead O'Shea of See Her Elected says Leitrim is in line with the national trend as a record number of women go before voters next weekend.
