Almost 50 people presented as homeless to housing services in Leitrim last year.
At yesterday's meeting of Leitrim County Council, councillors heard of the current supports available for those needing emergency accommodation.
Following a motion submitted by Councillor Brendan Barry, it was revealed that 46 people had presented to the local authority seeking emergency aid in the 12 months leading to the end of August.
According to council representatives, should no emergency accommodation be available or if the support is refused, sleeping bags are available from the housing department.
The issue was also highlighted by Councillor Sean McDermott.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound News at the meeting, Councillor Barry says homelessness is not just a city problem and it exists in every county.
