Over 500 fines have been issued by gardai in the Shannonside Northern Sound region for breaches of Covid regulations up to the middle of this month.
Figure published by the Policing Authority reveeals that over 37,000 checkpoints were carried out by gardaí in the north-west region between April last year and February of this year.
The report notes 5,784 fixed charges had been issued by Gardai for breaches of COVID-19 regulations and approximately 85 percent of those fines were issued to people leaving their homes without a reasonable excuse
According to the Policing Authority's latest report over 500 fines have been issued by garda in the Shannonside Northern Sound region for breaches of Covid regulations up to the middle of this month.
223 fixed charged penalty notices were issued in the Cavan-Monaghan District, 170 in the Roscommon-Longford and 117 in Sligo-Leitrim.
Gardai in the wider north-western region also used their Covid powers 346 times in the last 10 months, investigated up to 700 Covid crime related incidents as well as using spit hoods 26 times.
Over 36,000 checkpoints were also conducted by Gardai and the North Western Region remains the region with the highest number of incidents, accounting for 346 (approx. 28%) of total incidents since April last year.
