58,000 patients languishing on waiting lists in Galway University Hospitals

Almost 58,000 people are stuck on waiting lists in Galway University Hospitals - the worst in the country.

Over 47,000 are waiting for their first outpatient consultation and almost 10,500 are waiting for inpatient procedures.

Sligo University Hospital, meanwhile, has a total of 16,000 people on these two lists.

Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice, from Independent Ireland, says the delays cause serious problems for patients.
