Plans have been approved by Westmeath County Council for a significant new housing development in Athlone.
Blue Ridge Developments Ltd applied for planning permission in January for Coosan Link Road, Clonbrusk, Athlone.
The development includes 62 residential units including 28 four-bedroom semi-detached houses, 6 four-bedroom terraced houses and 16 three-bedroom terraced houses.
Also featured in the application are 6 two bed own door apartments and 6 three-bedroom own door duplex apartments.
Under the plans, vehicles and pedestrians would enter and exit the development via the Coosan Link Road.
The new housing units have been the subject of several submissions from locals in neighbouring housing estates, with concerns raised over a loss of privacy resulting from homes being built on sites directly behind existing homes.
Westmeath planners have greenlit the application with 22 conditions attached.
They include a provision that infrastructure must be provided underground in the development to support any future communication services, while another orders that 10 per cent of car parking space must contain E-car charging capabilities.
Developers must also pay €40,775 as a contribution towards the cost of public infrastructure and €84,444 to the Planning Authority as a contribution.
