Householders in Roscommon are best in the region when it comes to recycling electrical goods.
That's according to the latest report from WEEE Ireland showing a total of 755 tonnes of electrical waste was recycled in the county in 2022.
Longford is the next highest locally with 412 tonnes recycled last year, with households in Leitrim recycling just 130 tonnes of electrical waste last year.
The figures equate to 10.8 kilos per person in Roscommon, 8.8 kilos in Longford and 3.7 kilos of waste being recycled per person in Leitrim.
WEEE Ireland manages the collection of household e-waste, lighting and batteries from authorised collection points for recycling, on behalf of its 1,300 producer members.
Its CEO Leo Donovan says Ireland risks jeopardising green energy sources if we fail to improve our e-waste recycling and hit new EU targets for critical raw material recovery.
