Longford's off street car parks are not being used effectively.
That's according to local councillor Gerry Warnock who says people are still focusing on street parking outside businesses.
The issue was raised following the removal of parking spaces on the Market Square in the town during works on the Longford Connected Project.
Locals have raised concerns over the impact the works are having on the town.
Councillor Warnock says the way in which the public use parking in the town will need to change down the road.
"There is a tendency here in Longford town, and probably in other towns, where people like to pull up directly in front of the shop," he continued.
"But we are looking at a situation - be it five or 10 years down the line - where we are going to have to take a serious look at what the purpose of our town centres are."
