Abbeylara advanced to the quarter-final of the Peter Hanley Motors Longford Senior football championship after a 14 points to 11 win over Dromard.
Abbeylara made full use of the strong first-half wind leading 10 points to three at the break, although they added just four second half points, Dromard couldn’t make up the difference.
First-half points from Fergal Battrim, Cathal Gilligan, Colm E Smyth, two each from Ciaran Scanlon and Bernard Crawford and three including two frees from Robbie Smyth saw Abbey lead by seven.
Dromard worked hard with the second half wind but an early Robbie Smyth point plus two from Nigel Rabbitte including a free was enough to see Abbeylara into the quarter-finals taking second place in group four behind Granard.
