Noel Feeney explains that the new consultancy jobs will help recent graduates.

It's hoped that the creation of hundreds of new jobs in the agricultural consultancy sector will help keep recent graduates in the Shannonside region.

The Agricultural Consultants Association announced the creation of 130 new jobs nationally last week including several across Longford, Leitrim, and Roscommon.

80 of these jobs will be advisory and 50 will be in an administrative role.

Roosky native and president of the ACA, Noel Feeney hopes that these jobs will help young people in to stay in the farming sector locally

"In this region it's a huge opportunity for people who have done a level 8 degree in agriculture because that is the minimum requirement from the department for farmers to hire advisors. This is a huge opportunity for young people coming out of colleges not to go away and leave their regions but to work in their regions and maybe work in their own counties. It's a fantastic way of getting new blood into the sector".
