Roscommon County Council are to deploy additional flood protection measures along a local road adjacent to Lough Funshinagh.
The L-2005 at Ballagh near the infamous turlough will be closed from 11am on Monday to facilitate the works. In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound, Roscommon County Council say the measures are aimed at safeguarding nearby properties from rising flood levels.
Earlier this year, Roscommon County Council raised concerns that current flood defense measures will soon be ineffective. Local councillor and resident near Lough Funshinagh Laurence Fallon says while the closure of the busy road will cause disruptions its very much needed. He says the lake is a high as it's ever been and the choice is either do these works or allow the properties to be destroyed.
