Former Labour TD Willie Penrose says there's huge delight in Westmeath about getting the All Ireland Fleadh again next year.
The announcement was officially made by Comhaltas on Saturday and it means another major economic boost in the midlands region again next year.
The Mullingar Fleadh was lauded as a major success after it saw the event 'returning home' to the town where it was first held.
Willie Penrose says the hard work will start almost immediately in order to ensure another successful Fleadh for 2023 , and it will benefit not just Westmeath, but surrounding counties as well.
It goes into, not just Westmeath, it goes down into Longford, it goes everywhere, right into Offaly, Meath, so we stretched that far looking for accomodation.
It is a huge success, it's worth about roughly €60 million to the wider economy across the midlands region.
We had people staying in Tullamore, people staying everywhere, and that's great, that's part of the beauty of it , that it brings a few bob into people at a time when they could do with getting a bit of a boost.
