There were almost 1,000 individual private security licences issued across the Shannonside region last year. The figures, released as part of the Private Security Authority's annual report, show that almost 70 per cent of licences were issued to security guards. Nationally, over 40,000 licences were issued to individual contractors. There were a total of 952 Private Security Authority Licences issued across the Shannonside region in 2022. 432 of those were issued to contractors in County Longford, with 350 issued in Roscommon, and a total of 170 in County Leitrim.
There were 595 security guards issued with licences across the region and 339 door supervisors. The PSA granted licenses to eight cash-in-transit operatives as well as seven monitoring contractors. Meanwhile, there were just three private investigators licensed in Roscommon while there were none in either of the other two counties. Across the State, there was a total of 40,008 licenses issued by the authority in 2022.
