144 community projects in Leitrim are to receive over €264,000 in funding from a government support fund.
The grants were announced this morning and are part of the Community Support Fund 2022 designed to help smaller groups and clubs with running costs.
144 groups in Leitrim will share close to €265,000 in grants of between several hundred euro to €7,000.
The funds are aimed at helping groups with energy costs, facility improvements and insurance costs.
The largest allocation in the announcement went to North West STOP, with €7,000 allocated to help to help the mental health charity.
Other successful applicants include the An Tóstal Festival in Drumshanbo who have been awarded €4,000, Gortletteragh Playgroup in Mohill who are to get €6,000 and the Kiltoghert Community Development who will benefit from €5,500.
Also included in the allocations is the Irish Wheelchair Association in Carrick on Shannon, the Ballinamore Youth Club and the Leitrim Pool Association.
Similar funding was announced for groups in Longford and Roscommon earlier in the year.
Local Deputy Frank Feighan says the funds will help these organisations continue their vital work.
'These are locally led, ground up projects, in local communities across the country, and I just want to acknowledge the fantastic work carried out by volunteers in the communities, whether it's the local parish hall committee, the development association, or local senior citizens groups.
The funds are small, sometimes €1,500 , to €2,000 or €3,000, but they help a lot , and I'm absolutely delighted that these latest funds will help out local groups or clubs with their energy costs, insurance costs, or other overheads.'
