Close to 2,000 additional needs payments have been distributed to families in the Shannonside region in the first half of this year.

Expenses covered include the increased cost of fuel and electricity, essential repairs to property or vehicles, food, clothes or funeral costs.
1,943 payments were made to individuals and families in the Shannonside region between January and June of this year.
Longford recorded the highest level of payments in the first six months of the year at 755, with the highest amount occurring in June.
In Leitrim, the 674 payments were processed with a major spike in applications granted in May.
There were 514 additional needs payments made to families in Roscommon this year, with May also the month that saw the highest level of applications.
