Almost 2000 new cars were registered in the Shannonside region last year.
It comes as figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show Leitrim experienced the largest percentage increase in new electric vehicles registered last year nationwide
According to the latest figures from SIMI, 1,939 new cars were registered across the Shannonside region last year. The number represents a marginal increase from the 2021 figure of 1900. Longford had 514 new registrations, a small decrease from 517 the previous year. 426 new cars were registered in Leitrim, up from 390 in 2021. While 999 were registered in Roscommon, a marginal increase from 993. Across the region, electric car registrations increased dramatically. Leitrim experienced the biggest increase, from 16 in 2021 to 45 in 2022, a percentage increase of 181 percent, the biggest increase nationally. Roscommon had 107 new electric cars registered in 2022, up from 44 in 2021.
While Longford jumped from 25 in 2021 to 46 last year.
Nationally, 105,253 new cars were registered in 2022, down 0.3% on last year's figure, while electric car registrations increased by 84%, from 8646 to 15,678
