Close to 240 illegal dumping complaints have been made to Longford County Council so far this year.
The local authority is monitoring over a dozen dumping hotspots across the county, with an average of 3 complaints made each day since the start of the year.
One hotspot on the N4-N5 bypass outside of Longford Town has been subject to 50 complaints over the last 20 years, with 12 taking place in 2022 so far.
A number of local councillors have argued for households to be required to prove their method's of waste collection.
Longford county council is urging anyone with information on illegal dumping or who has witnessed suspicious activity to contact Gardaí or council's litter hot line at 1800 434 450.
