A major animal welfare investigation is underway in the Ballinamore Bridge/Ballygar area following the discovery of 270 dead calves on a farm.
Teams from Galway County Council and the Department of Agriculture made the discovery at a farm in the Roscommon/Galway border area.
According to the Connacht Tribune Newspaper, the animals are understood to have died from a combination of malnutrition, dietary issues, disease and respiratory conditions.
The remains of the calves, understood to be Friesian bulls, have been taken from the property and a major investigation has been launched into the incident.
