Over five hundred reports of suspected welfare fraud have been made about residents in the Shannonside Northern Sound region so far this year.
According to information released under FOI, the main allegations reported the main allegations reported are Working and Claiming, Cohabitation and Living Abroad
Between 1 April 2019 and 30 June 2020 there were 3 cases successfully finalised, for offences under Social Welfare legislation, in courts located in Leitrim and 2 such cases in courts in Monaghan.
A total of 544 suspected welfare fraud reports have been reported to inspectors across the Shannonside Northern sound region between January and June of this year.
160 cases involved people from Cavan, and 143 from Roscommon.
104 cases involved suspected welfare fraud in Monaghan, 82 in Longford and 55 in Leitrim.
The types of reports received are varied, but the main allegations reported are Working and Claiming, Cohabitation and Living Abroad. Other categories include, Employer Issues, Non-Disclosure of Means, Multiple Claiming and Personation.
