Almost 3,000 patients were admitted in hospitals across the region in 2023.
The figures were outlined in the latest National Inpatient Experience survey.
The data provided a breakdown of the number of patients admitted to hospitals and subdivided by their respective Community Health Organisation.
A total of 1,354 patients were admitted to hospital in the CHO of Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan.
Of these, 42.8% spent less than a week in hospital, while 20.1% stayed for under two weeks.
Meanwhile, 1,563 patients in the CHO of Galway, Roscommon, and Mayo were admitted to hospital, with 29.4% of these patients remaining there for treatment for under a week. 18.6% of them were there for under two weeks. In total, 2,917 patients were admitted in hospitals across the region throughout the year of 2023.
