Some 37 houses are unoccupied in a Ballaghaderreen estate despite the rental crisis in the area.
It makes up over half of the 64 homes in the Gleann Ard development in the town.
Many of the houses are derelict and there is widespread illegal dumping in the estate.
A recent report found the housing crisis is particularly bad in Ballaghaderreen because of a 56-per-cent increase in population over the past eight years.
Fianna Fáil local elections candidate Aidan Sampey says the estate is a disgrace.
"The dumping around this estate is like an industrial scale, it's so large," he said.
"Cameras could be installed to find out who is dumping all this rubbish because it's not a few bin bags thrown here and there.
"This is mattresses. It's household rubbish of all types."
