Almost 40 per cent of Ireland's derelict homes are in Connacht

Over 20,000 residential buildings were classified as derelict in June this year.

Over 37 per cent of Ireland's derelict residential buildings are located in Connacht.

A new quarter-2 report by GeoDirectory found the figure has fallen by 3.4 per cent compared to the same time last year.

A total of 6.1 per cent of that figure is in Co Roscommon, 3.4 per cent in Co Leitrim and 2.3 per cent in Co Longford.

Chief executive of GeoDirectory, Dara Keogh, says there is a big difference between the east and west of the country:
