Over 50 properties in the Shannonside Northern Sound region have been provided with funding to be used for housing stock by local Councils.
New details issued by Minister for housing Darragh O Brien reveals a total of 16 properties have been made available under the Repair and Leasing Scheme up to the end of last year including four in Roscommon, and six in Longford.
The scheme provides upfront funding to carry out the works and, in return, the property owner agrees to lease the dwelling to the local authority to be used as social housing for a period up to 25 years.
A total of 40 properties have also been made available for housing as part of the Buy and Renew Scheme which supports local authorities in purchasing and renewing housing units in need of repair, which can then be made available for social housing use including six in Leitrim, 11 in Longford and three in Roscommon.
The Housing Agency Acquisitions Fund which helps housing agencies acquire vacant units from banks and investment companies for social housing use has also purchased a total of 23 properties in the region - including seven in Longford, five in Leitrim and three in Roscommon.
