Almost 50 Longford property owners respond to Ukraine housing call

Almost 50 property owners in Longford have responded to a call from the local authority offering a vacant home to Ukrainian refugees.

The Offer a Home Initiative launched in November 2022 and has continued since. Under the initiative a total of 47 properties have been pledged to Longford County Council. 155 Ukrainians are housed in those properties with the majority given in 2023.

11 of the total pledged houses are shared properties with sees those fleeing the war living with local families. A tax-free recognition payment of €800 per month is available for properties used to house those arriving from Ukraine.
