Almost 500 environmental complaints were received by Longford County Council in the first three months of the year.
Details released to Shannonside FM reveal that the largest number of complaints were recorded in the south of the county.
A total of 482 complaints were logged by Longford County Council's environment section in the first quarter of this year - with 304 issues classified as relating to waste greater than one bag, 14 air pollution complaints linked to burning and four water pollution incidents.
152 reports made to the Council concerned litter of one bag or less.
South Longford accounted the highest number of complaints made to the local authority - with 45% south of the N4 - 25% within the confines of the Longford by-pass and 30% classified as being in north Longford or north of the N4.
Five complaints about unauthorised signage were also made to the Council, as well as issues around septic tanks and tyres and odour.
The Council also spent €23,139 on waste removal in the first three months of the year - including over €11,000 on street cleaning in Longford town and over €1900 on the removal of illegal waste dumping and carcass and the costs do not include costs of associated wages, diesel or legal fees which may be incurred at a later date by the local authority.
