Almost 6 in 10 voters are in favour of a more closed policy on immigration.
A new Irish Times/ Ipsos poll shows 59 per cent of people want a more closed policy while 19 per cent are happy with the current approach.
It also reveals 48 per cent said immigration had been a positive for Ireland, with 35 per cent saying it had been a negative.
