The principal of a Roscommon national school is warning other schools to be alert to heating oil thefts.
It comes as Tibohine National School reported that almost €1500 euro worth of oil was stolen from their tank on last Friday.
The school's principal, Mary Lynskey, was alerted to the theft after a staff member noticed damage to padlocks and other items on Saturday morning.
She says that heating oil is currently very expensive and she is disappointed to see that schools continue to be targets.
"It was very disappointing that something like that could happen to a very local and lovely, strong school community. The last fill, we just looked at the invoice today, it was €2100. There was a lot taken. We need to make schools aware that it's schools that they're targeting at the moment . It's not the first school that I've heard that's been targeted".
Gardai are appealing to anyone in the area who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the Tibohine area on Friday evening or late on Friday night to contact Ballaghaderreen Gardai.
