Over 43,000 euro in funding has been allocated to support walking trails across the Shannonside region.
The grants of between €1,000 and €3,000 have been awarded by the Department of Rural and Community Development to maintain, improve and promote the local amenities.
Roscommon received the highest allocation locally with 23,000 euro divided between 14 walks.
This includes a number of trails in Cloonfad as well as the Lough O’Flynn bog loop and National Famine Way.
The Bothar Na Naomh trail, Aghacashel loop and the Leitrim Way are among nine walks to be awarded 14,600 euro between them in Leitrim.
While Longford has received a total of 5,800 euro to be allocated towards 4 trails made up of the Aughnacliffe Waterfall and Mass Bridge walk, the Commons North Woodland Walk in Lanesborough as well as the Ballinamuck/Edenmore bog loop.
Minister Heather Humphreys says many of those awarded funding have been a godsend particularly during COVID-19, in terms of supporting physical and mental wellbeing.
