The refusal of planning permission for a broadband and telecommunications mast in Roscommon has been upheld by the Higher Planning Authority.
Vodafone Ireland Limited had sought permission from local planners for the tower in Ballymoe, Roscommon, with the local authority denying permission at the start of the year.
Plans had called for the removal of an existing 10 metres support structure and its replacement with a new 30 metres telecommunications tower.
The communications structure would hold the relocated existing antenna as well as additional antennas, dishes, associated equipment together with ground based equipment cabinets and new fencing.
An Bord Pleanála upheld Roscommon County Council's decision and refused an appeal lodged by Vodafone Ireland Limited.
The higher planning authority made the decision over four reasons including the height difference between the previous mast and the proposed development, and the locations high value as a tourist area.
