It's understood that a favoured applicant has been identified to take over the postal service in a nearby location in the town.

An Post has confirmed that the postal service in Roscommon town is set to move away from it's current location in the square. It was announced in January that Roscommon Post Office would become a contractor-run service. Following backlash from local politicians and the public, An Post said they would seek to appoint a Postmaster to take over the running of Roscommon post office in the current premises.

In a statement to Shannonside FM this evening, An Post said that they are glad to be able to bring some clarity on the future of the post office in Roscommon. An Post also confirmed they will work with state agencies, the local authority on the future of the current building.
