The postal service confirmed last week that it would implement a new business strategy for its Roscommon town service.

An Post have been criticised for not providing a representative to attend last night's special meeting of Roscommon County Council on changes to the town's post office. Last week, An Post confirmed it would be implementing a new business strategy for its Roscommon town service. The post office in the county town will now be run by a contractor and will most likely move from its current location on the Square.

14 Roscommon County Councillors were present at the meeting yesterday evening as were local TDs Michael Fitzmaurice and Claire Kerrane and Senator Eugene Murphy. It was confirmed last night that local representatives are in the process of organising a meeting with Minister of State Jack Chambers within the next two weeks to discuss the current situation. Fianna Fáil Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice said it was disappointing An Post decided not to provide a representative once they found out that it would be a public meeting:
