The public affairs manager of An Post has said that the proposed closure of Roscommon Post Office is not a downgrading of services. The national postal service said last week that the Roscommon branch will join 95 per cent of the country's 900 plus post offices and become a contractor-run post office. This means the service will no longer run by An Post but by a local manager of behalf of the postal service.
An Post has described it as a significant business opportunity for prospective postmasters in the area. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Angus Laverty believes the social aspect of visiting post offices will not be lost with these changes.
