A Longford Senator says he is bitterly disappointed by news that no funding is being provided for a major upgrade of the N4 next year.
The TII has revealed that it will reconsider providing money for the N4 Mullingar-Longford project in 2023, but at present no money is being ring-fenced to progress the project.
Earlier this year a public consultation was held on selecting the preferred route for the upgrade which was first mooted over 15 years ago with the route likely to be known by February next year
Today almost nine million euro was announced for roads projects in Longford, including greenways but the Ballinalee native feels the TII should be asked to reconsider their decision on the N4.
The Allocations were made having regard to the priorities set out in the National Development Plan and the views of the Transport Minister, Eamon Ryan.
€62.3 million euro is headed for Co Roscommon and almost €52 million of this will go towards the N5 Ballaghaderreen Bypass to Longford.
Elsewhere in the Shannonside region, Longford benefits from €8.2 million, with €1.4 million of this allocation being used for Phase 1 of the N4 Longford By-Pass.
Co Leitrim is set to receive €5.6 million, with €1 million going to minor works on the N16 Drummahan.
