A Roscommon Councillor is calling for an emergency meeting over the closure of a graveyard in West Roscommon.
It's understood the local authority served a health and safety ntoice on Cloonshanville cemetery near Frenchpark today over concerns around its abbey and bell tower.
Councillor Liam Callaghan believes the sudden closure without consultation is causing upset locally.
Speaking to Shannonside FM the Fine Gael representative is now seeking a meeting with Council engineers to rectify the closure as soon as possible.
''It has happened quite quickly and people are very upset about the future of this graveyard and how they will access it for both a funeral in the area or for attending the graves of their loved ones or even the upkeep of the graveyard. The gates have been closed off and are barricaded off and that is causing quite a bit of upset locally. So I think you know, we have to get an immediate response to this.''
