A planned development of 245 houses in Mullingar has been appealed to the higher planning authority.
It's the second time in just over 12 months that planning permission for it has been lodged, granted, and appealed
Planning was granted to Andrews Construction Limited to construct 245 houses on the Dublin Road at Petitswood. It's set to be comprised of 70 four bed homes, 132 three bed houses and a mix of duplexes and apartments with roof mounted solar panels. As part of the plans, the applicants have included a childcare facility, 442 car parking spaces, 550 bike spaces and close to 1.75 hectares of open space. The open space will include a biodiversity corridor and all associated hard and soft landscaping. Plans for the development were approved with 27 conditions attached, however it has now been appealed. The appeal was lodged by the Ardmore Road Residents Association, a road which will provide access to the new development. Residents on the Ardmore Road have raised concerns previously over the level of traffic on the road and lack of amenities in the area. Traffic on the road has increased since the construction of a new primary school, and is set to increase further with other planned housing developments along the road. Planning permission for this exact development was rejected in March 2024 by An Bórd Pleanála citing that the plans failed to include infrastructure to support the local area.
The new plans lodged towards the end of 2024 make a number of revisions and are now before the higher planning authority again.
A decision is due on the issue in April.
